Predicted N-terminus: Gly

Molecular Characterization

This protein carries no "tag".

The protein has a calculated MW of 35.9 kDa. The protein migrates as 43-55 kDa when calibrated against Star Ribbon Pre-stained Protein Marker under reducing (R) condition (SDS-PAGE) due to glycosylation.

Endotoxin

Less than 1.0 EU per μg by the LAL method / rFC method.

Purity

>90% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

>95% as determined by SEC-MALS.

Formulation

Lyophilized from 0.22 μm filtered solution in 20 mM MOPS, 50 mM NaCl, pH7.3 with trehalose as protectant.

Background Introduction

Galectin-9 (LGALS9) is also known as tumor antigen HOM-HD-21 and ecalectin. Galectins are a family of proteins defined by their binding specificity for β-galactoside sugars, such as N-acetyllactosamine (Galβ1-3Glcc or Galβ1-4Glcc), which can be bound to proteins by either N-linked or O-linked glycosylation. As for Galectin-9, it has high affinity for the Forssman pentasaccharide, and it is also the ligand for HAVCR2/TIM3. Forthermore, Galectin-9 stimulates bactericidal activity in infected macrophages by causing macrophage activation and IL1B secretion which restricts intracellular bacterial growth.
